Winter Solstice

Happy Solstice Everyone!

This is an update on the events at the first E-SAGE meeting last week. It was a resounding YES! I mean success. There were about 50 people who ranged from local businesses, non-profit groups, and government bodies, to concerned citizens. We even had some guests from the Camrose and Stony Plain areas!

Thanks to Enid, Natalie, Tanny and the rest at The Village - It was a great venue with lots of space for the gathering. Thanks also to Earth's General Store for their donation of fair-trade, organic coffee and all the paraphenalia that goes with it.

We had introductions, and a short film about the Sustainable Connections group in Bellingham to whet our appetites. Then we broke into small groups and talked for a few hours about "what we believe we know about living in sustainable communities". The conversations were thoughtful and animated, and many people connected with others who shared the same passion and ideas. We then had time for people to connect people who "needed to meet". All-in-all it was a good vibe! Thanks to everyone who came!

The guests filled in a short questionnaire at the end of the night from which we are compiling a database we will post the final results here when they are ready.

The common vision people shared for this networking group is to:

1. Meet and connect with others
2. Find out what is going on locally
3. TAKE ACTION!

At the next meeting we will continue to generate ideas about developing a sustainable community in Edmonton, and how various businesses, groups and individuals can participate in that.

The details for the next large group meeting are below:

Date: Tuesday, January 22, 2008
Time: 7 pm
Place: Climate Change Central
Western Canadian Bank Bldg (see map)
10303 - Jasper avenue
